Friday, January 05, 2018 -- (Reuters Health) - - Pregnant women who take drugs like Ritalin and Concerta for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are more likely than those who don’t to have babies with heart deformities and other birth defects, a recent study suggests.
Monday, January 22, 2018 -- Quillivant XR and Quillichew ER are currently in short supply.
Wednesday, January 03, 2018 -- Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) increases the risk of subsequent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among adolescent and young adult populations by about three times, reports a study published in the January 2018 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Wednesday, January 03, 2018 -- For children who need help from so-called welfare technology in order to manage their day-to-day lives, it is important that the assistance they get is invisible to others. Many obtain effective help from an app installed on their phones.
Monday, January 01, 2018 -- CONTEXT: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder in childhood. Exploring the risk factors for ADHD is helpful in preventing ADHD. OBJECTIVE: To explore the association between maternal smoking during pregnancy and the occurrence of ADHD in offspring. DATA SOURCES: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched from inception to May 2017 for studies. STUDY SELECTION: Cohort or case-control studies in which the association between maternal smoking and ADHD in offspring were investigated were eligible if they included odds ratios (ORs), hazard ratios, or risk ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). DATA EXTRACTION: Two investigators independently extracted data on definition of exposure and outcome, number of cases and total sample population, and potential confounders adjusted. Any dose-relationship data
Monday, January 01, 2018 -- OBJECTIVES: It has been shown that maternal prenatal exposure to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may be a risk factor for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in offspring. Our goal was to examine whether paternal SSRI use before conception increases the risk of ADHD in offspring. METHODS: On the basis of Danish national registers, we conducted a cohort study of 781 470 singletons born between 1996 and 2008 with follow-up throughout 2013. The children whose fathers used SSRIs during the last 3 months before conception were identified as the exposed. Cox regression was used to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) of ADHD. RESULTS: A total of 7216 children (0.92%) were born to fathers who had used SSRIs during the last 3
Wednesday, January 17, 2018 -- Although late-onset ADHD may be a valid diagnosis for some, clinicians should carefully evaluate patients' psychiatric history for other causes.
Thursday, January 11, 2018 -- Individual formulation-based CBT with usual treatment is more effective than usual treatment alone for improving core symptoms in ADHD.
Thursday, January 11, 2018 -- Children whose fathers used SSRIs during the 3 months prior to conception were at an increased risk for ADHD compared with unexposed children.
Thursday, January 18, 2018 -- ADHD medication prescriptions are increasingly common among privately insured, reproductive-aged women.
Thursday, January 11, 2018 -- Pregnant women who take drugs like Ritalin and Concerta for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are more likely than those who don't to have babies with heart deformities and other birth defects, a recent study suggests. Researchers examined data on more than 1.8 million pregnancies in the U.S., including 2,072 women who used methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana) and 5,571 who took an amphetamine (Adderall) during their first trimester. Overall, women who took methylphenidate were 11 percent more likely to have a baby with birth defects and 28 percent more likely to have infants with heart malformations than women who didn't take stimulants for ADHD during pregnancy. There was no increased risk of birth defects in general or heart malformations
