What is Fosolin?

Fosolin Injection is used for Epilepsy, Control of generalized tonic-clonic status epilepticus, Prevention and treatment of seizures occurring during neurosurgery and other conditions. Fosolin Injection may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Fosolin Injection contains Fosphenytoin as an active ingredient.
Fosolin Injection works by modulating voltage-dependent sodium channels of neurons, inhibiting calcium flux across neuronal membranes, modulating voltage-dependent calcium channels of neurons, and enhancing the sodium-potassium ATPase activity of neurons and glial cells.

Fosolin Injection - Precautions & How to Use

Before using Fosolin Injection, inform your doctor about your current list of medications, over the counter products (e.g. vitamins, herbal supplements, etc.), allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions (e.g. pregnancy, upcoming surgery, etc.). Some health conditions may make you more susceptible to the side-effects of the drug. Take as directed by your doctor or follow the direction printed on the product insert. Dosage is based on your condition. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. Important counseling points are listed below.
  • Alcohol use
  • Careful cardiac monitoring is needed during and after the administration of intravenous Fosphenytoin
  • Diabetic patients
  • Do not administer fosphenytoin sodium injection at a rate greater than 150 mg PE/min
  • Elderly patients
  • Fosphenytoin is not indicated for seizures due to hypoglycemic or other metabolic causes

Fosolin Injection - Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Fosolin Injection is a contraindication. In addition, Fosolin Injection should not be used if you have the following conditions:
  • Concomitant use with delavirdine
  • Hypersensitivity to this drug
  • Patients with sinus bradycardia, sino-atrial block, second and third degree A-V block, and Adams-Stokes syndrome

Missing a dose

Overdosage of Fosolin Injection

  • Do not use more than prescribed dose. Taking more medication will not improve your symptoms; rather they may cause poisoning or serious side-effects. If you suspect that you or anyone else who may have overdosed of Fosolin Injection, please go to the emergency department of the closest hospital or nursing home. Bring a medicine box, container, or label with you to help doctors with necessary information.
