Eptoin (Phenytoin) is not associated with weight gain. Eptoin is a brand name of phenytoin sodium. It is an anticonvulsant drug which comes under the subclass of hydantoin. It is used to control and prevention of tonic-clonic seizures and partial seizures. Eptoin protects against seizures by blocking the activity of voltage-gated sodium and calcium channels.

Eptoin medication can cause various common side effects including slurred speech, decreased coordination, mental confusion, dizziness, insomnia, motor twitchings, headaches, tremor, vomiting, constipation, toxic hepatitis, nausea, skin rash, muscles pain and liver damage, etc.

An article published in Epilepsia in 2007, concluded that lamotrigine, phenytoin, levetiracetam comes under the category of neutral antiepileptic drugs neither show weight gain nor weight loss effect in patients during the study. But the effect on weight may vary among the individuals according to the dose and duration of the medication. The comparisons among the antiepileptic drugs become difficult because of the difference in the study design and how the results are represented. Hence more research is needed to evaluate how Eptoin and other antiepileptic drugs may contribute to such weight changes with ease of understanding.

If you're concerned about any weight changes while taking Eptoin, consult your healthcare provider or doctor.
